How to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius

To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius, subtract 32 from the temperature and multiply by 5/9. Temperature is a non-linear conversion: the scales have different zero points, so you cannot use a single multiplier - the 32-degree offset must be removed before scaling.

°C = (°F − 32) × 5/9 = (°F − 32) ÷ 1.8
32 °F = 0 °C  ·  212 °F = 100 °C  ·  -40 °F = -40 °C
